Why a Short Sailing Itinerary is a Good Vacation Option

By:  Lauren Beck, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

Marvelous Mouse Travels was recently invited to sail aboard Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas. During our two-night sailing, we experienced everything Royal Caribbean has to offer. Between the delicious dining options, onboard entertainment, and our Perfect Day at Coco Cay, we had an amazing time! Have you been thinking about going on your own short cruise? There are several reasons why a short cruise is a great vacation option!

Cost

If you are trying to find an economical vacation option, short itinerary cruises are very budget friendly! You can find many three- or four-night sailings aboard Independence of the Seas for as low as $200-$250 per person. As always, most dining options are also included in your cruise fare. There are also so many free things to do both on board and on the islands. The lower price point may also allow you to take more vacations!

Busy Schedules

Between work, school, and extracurricular activities, everyone has a busy schedule. Independence of the Seas (and its sister ship, Freedom of the Seas) departs from Port Canaveral every Friday and Monday. You can find many three-night itineraries that would require little to no time away from your daily obligations.

First time cruisers

Not sure if cruising is right for you? For those who are prone to motion or sea sickness, a short itinerary would be the perfect way for you to test the waters (pun intended). The three-night itineraries aboard Independence of the Seas typically give you a full day at Coco Cay and a full day at Nassau. There are no full days at sea with this itinerary like there are on longer cruises.

A Taste of International Travel

No passport, no problem! For cruises that begin and end in the United States, only a birth certificate and an ID are required to sail. Cruising is a fun way to see the beautiful waters and islands of the Bahamas in a short period of time.

A short cruise would also be a great addition to an existing vacation! Port Canaveral is about an hour from the Orlando area, and 15 minutes to Cocoa Beach. For theme park goers, a short weekend cruise would be a relaxing end to a few days at the parks. You can also extend your vacation by spending some time at Cocoa Beach and visiting Kennedy Space Center after your cruise.
