As someone that loves to travel and help people plan vacations, I oftentimes get told of very strict budgets or that they need to hold off on plans due to finances. Not everyone has the extra money to indulge in numerous vacations yearly but aiming for one every year would be a nice perk! Below are some ways to easily save some cash for your next trip!
1.Track your monthly expenses
Oftentimes, we are spending a lot more than we realize and tracking our expensive helps clue us in to how much is actually going out the door! There are many apps that can help with tracking.
2. Cut out all unnecessary expenses
Writing our expenses down isn’t the most exciting task but in doing so you can see where you are spending and what you can cut out. Throughout the month write down every bit of spending you did down to the penny. After you do this, make a list of necessary and unnecessary spending. For example,
Necessary spending is all the things that you can not cut out; mortgage/rent, student loans, car payments, etc.
Unnecessary spending is all the impulse buys such as coffee runs, new clothings, movies, drinks and snacks on the go.
After you are done go through the list and decide what you can live without and allow yourself one splurge a month!
3. Make a realistic budget
Once you’ve crunched numbers and decided what you can’t live without, you can make a budget. You can make a daily or monthly budget depending on what is easier for you. One way to budget is place your bill money aside in envelope and your spending money in another. Only allow yourself to spend what is in your spending money envelope and don’t cheat!
4. Create your savings goal
To make a savings goal you will need to see how much the trip may coast you. Estimating how much you will need for food, budget accommodations, flights or gas, spending money. Allow yourself enough money to enjoy your vacation and not have to say no to something you really want!
Although there are many ways to save for a vacation this is a good starting point to get you on track and realize that you do have the “extra” money to have a nice getaway!
