Thinking back to the time that we do not wish to speak of, so many things at Walt Disney World changed. The lines on the floors, plexiglass barriers, and even changes to the transportation options. While most things went back to “normal” in the following year, one thing was still missing, the boat transportation that took guests from select resorts to other connected destinations also known as the “blue route”
Bay Lake, inside Walt Disney World Resort, connects Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. While each resort has its own mode of transportation(s) to and from the parks, it also previously had a boat shuttle service that connected these resorts for guests to be able to visit for entertainment, restaurants, and “resort hopping.”
Currently, Disney’s Contemporary Resort offers a direct walkway to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. It also has the Resort Monorail that also runs to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Polynesian Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and to the Ticket and Transportation Center. Guests can also utilize the bus system to access the parks. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is offering a water taxi service currently to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, and the Disney bus transportation. The final resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, also offers the water taxi service to Disney’s Magic Kingdom along with the Disney bus transportation. During the closure of the “blue route,” guests wanting to travel to the other resorts would have to essentially travel to Disney’s Magic Kingdom to then take a bus or separate water taxi to the desired destination.

Disney Destinations has announced that the “blue route” will officially begin transporting guests across those three resorts located on Bay Lake as of October 1, 2023. Each day, beginning at 3 p.m., guests will be able to use the watercraft service to travel between the three resorts located on the lake. This will allow guest a more direct travel route to the resorts across the way.
Walt Disney World is always adding new features, updates, and fun interactive activities for the families. That even includes a relaxing water taxi shuttle around the resorts.
