Walt Disney World as an Adult Picky Eater!

Picture it. You’ve read all the guide books. You’ve checked all the maps. You’ve scoured videos to choose the perfect resort. You have the most amazing outfits, the best direct flights, and an itinerary that is unmatched. Now, the detail that has been hanging over your head for months. You have reached your 60 day mark, and it’s time to book Disney dining reservations. Your foodie husband flashes in your mind, the stares from your friends as you again order “your finest chicken fingers please” pop into your brain. What are you going to do?!?!?!

Everyone knows Disney World offers some of the most amazing restaurants, Instagram worthy snacks, and drinks that cannot be topped (and sometimes that topping sounds gross and you need them to nix it, please!). Your travel group has compiled their wish lists….Yachtsman for steak, Hollywood Brown Derby for the famous Cobb salad, Morimoto Asia for sushi, and your panic is starting to set it. I mean, sure, it’s Disney…a family place, which means kids’ menus. Right? But what if they say no? Stress. No. More.

I’m here to tell you that Disney World is not only a mecca for foodies, it’s also an amazing destination for the epitome of the non-foodie (your resident adult picky eater)! I can assure you that no matter where you dine with your foodie friends and family (with very few exceptions), your bland-loving bougie self will be just fine….actually, more than fine, satisfied and happy!

While the others are planning their exotic meal choices, scan the menu for the kids’ items. See something you love? Perfect! Disney is incredibly accommodating when it comes to dietary requests. They will gladly give you an adult portion of anything on that menu (or sometimes a kids’ portion if you prefer – at the server’s discretion). Checked the menu and nothing tickles your fancy? That’s when you need to dig a little deeper. For example, O’hana is wonderful, right? The scenery, the family style environment, the views of Magic Kingdom, the meat on a skewer?!?! GROSS! I love the O’hana experience, but there is absolutely nothing on that menu that I will eat. Lucky for me, Disney cast members rock! They were willing to get me (and my sometimes picky mom) chicken and fries from the quick service location nearby. Crisis averted! Nearby food items, especially at resorts, are often easily accessible to the kitchen at your dining location, and the cast members are often willing to grab those for you so you can also enjoy your meal.

So, I’m here to tell you, my fellow Picky Princess (or Prince), pack those outfits, straighten your crown (or ears), and order those “finest chicken fingers” with pride!
