Two Parks, No Bus: Why Disney's BoardWalk Inn Location Changes Everything

By:  Jennifer Suissa, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

There is a question I get asked all the time as a travel agent: does it really matter which Disney resort you stay at? My answer is always yes, and nowhere is that more true than at Disney's BoardWalk Inn. Of all the things that make a Disney trip feel seamless versus stressful, where you are sleeping at the end of the night matters more than most people realize. And when it comes to location, Disney's BoardWalk Inn makes a case that is genuinely hard to argue with.

Why Disney's BoardWalk Inn Location Changes Everything

The Location That Changes Your Whole Trip

Disney's BoardWalk Inn sits along Crescent Lake, nestled perfectly between two of Walt Disney World's theme parks. EPCOT's International Gateway entrance is approximately a five to ten minute walk from the resort. Disney's Hollywood Studios is about fifteen to twenty minutes on foot, or about ten minutes by boat (you can even take the boat to EPCOT as well). You can leave your room, walk to a park, spend a few hours, come back for a break, and return to the park again without ever waiting for a bus.

For guests who have been to Disney World before and know how much time can be lost waiting for transportation. The Disney Friendship Boats also service the resort, offering a scenic ride along Crescent Lake to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. And for anyone who wants even more options, the Disney Skyliner is a short walk away, connecting guests to Hollywood Studios. It also connects to Caribbean Beach Resort, Riviera and Pop Century if you would like to go to the other resorts or a meal just check them out.

Once you have stayed at a resort where you can leave the park the moment your feet start to hurt and be back in your room within ten minutes, it is very hard to go back.  If you have ever stayed until the park closes after the fireworks, you know how long those lines back to the resorts can get as well.

The Boardwalk Itself Is Part of the Experience

One of the things that sets Disney's BoardWalk Inn apart from other deluxe resorts is that the entertainment, dining, and nightlife are right outside the front door. The resort is modeled after a turn-of-the-century Atlantic City boardwalk, complete with colorful facades, string lights along the waterfront, and a genuine carnival energy that comes alive in the evenings. Walking the boardwalk at night after a day in the parks is one of those Disney experiences that feels completely different from anything you can find elsewhere on property.

The dining options along the boardwalk are extensive and genuinely excellent. Flying Fish is one of the most acclaimed restaurants at Walt Disney World, offering a fine dining experience that feels special without requiring a trip to another resort. Trattoria al Forno is a beloved Italian option right on the water. AbracadaBar is a magician-themed cocktail lounge with impressive craft drinks. The Cake Bake Shop, a newer addition, has quickly become one of the most talked-about dining experiences at Disney World, offering beautiful desserts and a whimsical atmosphere that fits the boardwalk aesthetic perfectly. BoardWalk Deli, BoardWalk Ice Cream, Carousel Coffee, and the Pizza Window round out the casual options for guests who want something quick between park visits.

In the evenings, street performers and entertainers bring the boardwalk to life. It is the kind of place where you might wander out after dinner just to enjoy the atmosphere and end up staying for an hour longer than you planned.

The Resort Itself

Beyond the location and the boardwalk entertainment, Disney's BoardWalk Inn is a beautifully themed deluxe resort with a lot to offer guests during their downtime. The Luna Park Pool is the main pool, featuring the Keister Coaster, a 200-foot waterslide designed to look like a wooden roller coaster. Two leisure pools offer a quieter alternative for guests who want to relax without the energy of the main pool area. Surrey bike rentals are available for guests who want to explore the boardwalk and the surrounding resort area, and there are also options for fishing, tennis, pickleball, and jogging along the waterfront path.

Room types at the BoardWalk Inn range from standard view rooms to water view rooms, with club level access available in resort view, deluxe, and garden room categories. All standard rooms sleep up to six guests, making this a resort that works for families of various sizes. The club level experience here includes access to the Innkeeper's Club lounge, which offers food and beverages throughout the day, a dedicated concierge team to assist with dining reservations, park tickets, and itinerary planning, and premium room amenities including upgraded toiletries and nightly turndown service.

As a deluxe resort, guests at Disney's BoardWalk Inn not only enjoy early theme park entry, which grants access to any park thirty minutes before it opens to the general public, but also extended evening hours on select nights in select parks. That last benefit in particular is one a must do!  On a night with extended hours, our group did five rides at Magic Kingdom in two hours with virtually no wait. That kind of experience is simply not available to guests staying at value or moderate resorts without an extra cost.

Why Working With a Travel Agent Makes a Difference

Choosing the right Disney resort is one of the most important decisions in planning a Disney World trip, and it is also one of the areas where working with a knowledgeable vacation planner pays off the most. There are so many variables to consider: which parks you plan to spend the most time in, how many people are in your group, whether club level is the right investment for your family, and how the resort location fits into your overall daily plan. Getting that wrong can cost you hours of your trip.
