Traveling on a low fodmap diet can be extremely difficult. Especially if you’re in the elimination phase. Eliminating items like gluten, milk, garlic and onions is difficult enough at home. Trying to eat out at the beginning seems impossible. And the thought of traveling can seem downright frightening.
But imagine, if you will, a vacation that takes care of your mind and body. Your body needs fuel. When you are on a restrictive diet, food can become just a fuel source. If you eat well you can enjoy your vacation. But if you get cross contamination it can ruin your trip.
My trip to Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda was amazing. I have shared a few pictures of the food I ate. I worked with a chef every day. This was helpful as some of the front line did not speak English well. The chef would have me look around at the buffet options and modify what looked good to me in the back kitchen. I loved a vegan french dressing that checked all the low fodmap requirements. I had that daily!
If I was at a table service restaurant a chef would come out to the table after I reviewed the menu. One night I had a steak and for my side I ordered white rice with cilantro and lime. The side was not on the menu, but together the chef and I got creative. I was able to eat well and enjoy my food.
Eating well gave me the opportunity to enjoy all of the activities that Club Med has to offer. I enjoyed archery, paddle boarding and treetop meditation. I visited the gym daily and had the energy to enjoy evening shows.
