One of my favorite things about cruising is that there’s always something happening—live music, shows, dining, fun neighborhoods, and activities everywhere you turn. But sometimes, even on vacation, I crave a little peace and quiet. On my time aboard Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, I found the best spot to escape: The Overlook, tucked behind the AquaDome at the very front of the ship.
Walking into The Overlook feels like stumbling onto a secret hideaway. It’s full of cozy corners, cushioned loungers, and little nooks that are perfect for curling up with a book—or even sneaking in a nap (yes, I did!). The moment I sat down, I realized this was going to be my go-to spot whenever I needed a break from the ship’s hustle and bustle.
The views here are incredible. Being all the way at the front of the ship, you get this endless stretch of ocean in front of you. I caught myself just staring out at the water, completely mesmerized. If you’re up early, it’s one of the most peaceful places to watch the sunrise.
I’ll admit—I sometimes bring my laptop along, and The Overlook turned out to be the perfect place to get a little work done while still feeling like I was on vacation. But it’s equally wonderful if you just want to recharge. Between activities, it became my quiet retreat where I could rest, reset, and get ready for the next adventure.
For me, The Overlook is one of those places that really shows off the beauty of being at sea. It gave me the chance to slow down and soak it all in. Out of all the fun and excitement onboard, this was the one spot I kept going back to again and again.
