I recently took a cruise to Alaska and I sailed on the Celebrity Solstice out of Seattle. The sailing, ship, crew, and itinerary exceeded my expectations. This was my first experience on Celebrity Cruises. My sailing companion was my husband. We also sailed with 2 other couples and we all stayed in the balcony oceanview stateroom. This type of stateroom is a must if you are sailing in Alaska. It allows for great views to the continuous beauty around you. Plus, when navigating the glaciers, which begins early in the morning, we had amazing views. Another perk was that the cruise director and ship captain narrated on the loud speakers as we sailed through the sights.
The experience was flawless from beginning to end. The porters took our luggage prior to boarding and we headed straight to explore the ship. We loved the many lounge options and areas to gather. One of our favorites became the Sky Observation Lounge. This lounge was completely enclosed with glass. The views were amazing. Especially when sailing through the glaciers and Alaskan waters. We also spent lots of time here playing trivia games, singing karaoke, and dancing with the crew.
Another favorite nighttime spot for many on this ship is the martini bar. Here the bartenders are friendly, spontaneous, and constantly entertaining the crowd. I think one of our fellow travelers made very good use of his drink package and sampled every martini on the menu. Plus, the bartenders remembered us and delivered our favorite drinks to us.
Every night was filled with activities to suit all ages. This is a family-friendly cruise line. Camp at Sea is available for children ages 3-17. But for this sailing most of the crowd was adults. We sampled a variety of the activities provided including: stage shows, comedians, music groups, trivia games, bingo, game shows, dancing, sing-alongs, etc. I really enjoyed when the entertainment staff attended the dances or shows. They took the time to mingle and enjoy their time with the patrons on board.
I can’t say enough about our cruise director. I felt like she was magic. She would appear and reappear at every show and entertainment venue. Her vibrant personality, and enthusiasm was contagious. Each day was a new adventure.
