RunDisney: Princess Half Marathon

By:  Megan Guinnup, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

A half marathon wasn’t always on my bucket list, but when I added it I just knew I had to do a RunDisney race! You have to wake up super early (think 3am at the latest) to get ready to run 13.1 miles, but the moment you run down Main Street U.S.A. and through Cinderella’s Castle makes it (almost) all worth it!

The course is fun - you get to run through Magic Kingdom and Epcot, backstage at both parks, past various resorts, Magnolia Golf Course, on the roads (and up an overpass), all while the monorail drivers honk in support and taking pictures with characters (or not - your choice)! Then you fuel up with some awesome post-race food and head into the parks for a fun day and much deserved drink of your choosing! I mean, what could be better than running 13.1 miles at the most magical place on Earth?!

RunDisney really knows how to put on a Race Expo - tons of running gear, from sunglasses to sneakers to KT tape to body glide. Lots of running costumes, sparkly skirts, crown headbands (non-slip, of course), Disney Vacation Club, celebratory beverages and more! The expo and merchandise building is at ESPN Wide World of Sports, which makes it even more fun!

Your kids want to participate too? Well good news - they can!!! RunDisney puts on kids races the day before the half marathon at ESPN Wide World of Sports and your kids have their own race bib and receive a medal at the end of their race! It’s such an awesome way to inspire fitness and running for the whole family!

Remember that early wake up I mentioned earlier? Well, what do you do with your kids?! You hire a babysitter through Disney World - they are the BEST!!! Reasonably priced, modeled after the best nanny there ever was, and will happily watch your children in your room while you run.
