Royal Caribbean's Healthy Return to Sailing

By:  Elizabeth Knapmiller, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

We are so excited to see that many cruise lines are getting back up and running. However, with this excitement, people are often left wondering... what about my health and safety? Health and Safety is at the top of the cruise lines considerations as we return to sailing. Let's see what we can expect as we board Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas!
Masks
Masks are required in some locations aboard the ship, regardless of vaccination status. These locations include all indoor common spaces, for example, the Royal Promenade, an indoor shopping and dining area aboard the ship. There are some locations aboard the ship that are for vaccinated guests only. When unvaccinated guests are present, mask are required for all. In spaces designated only for vaccinated guests, masks are optional. Some spaces reserved for only vaccinated guests include the casino, select spa services, and select entertainment options. No one is required to wear a mask in their stateroom, and masks are optional for everyone outdoors.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are required for some Royal Caribbean sailings. For Royal Caribbean sailings departing from Florida, vaccinations are optional. Those who are not vaccinated will be required to undergo testing and follow other protocols while aboard the ship.
To be considered vaccinated on the sailing, you must present valid vaccination documentation, such as a CDC approved "COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card". This documentation must show that you've completed your series of vaccinations at least 14 days prior to sailing. If you are unable to provide valid vaccination documentation, you will be considered unvaccinated on the sailing.
If you are vaccinated and have valid vaccination documentation, you will be given a wristband to note to staff that you are vaccinated on the sailing. Those who are not vaccinated, will be restricted from some spaces on the ship. Some events and shows are designated only for those who are vaccinated. Some Spa services as well as the casino will be limited only to those who are vaccinated.
Please note that on sailings of 5-Days and longer between the dates of July 31 and August 31, ALL guests will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 Test, regardless of vaccination status.
Social Distancing
Social distancing is expected for all guests in both indoor and outdoor locations. In places where lines form, there will be physical distancing markers for you to stand on. Tables in the dining areas are socially distanced and some tables will be blocked off and unusable for social distancing purposes. Some seats in both common areas and event/entertainment spaces will be blocked off for social distancing purposes.
Hand Washing/Hand Sanitizing
Washing your hands often for at least 20 seconds is highly encouraged, and is required prior to entering Windjammer Marketplace (dining location). Hand sanitizer is everywhere aboard the ship. Prior to entering most spaces aboard the ship, a staff member will guide you to sanitize your hands before entering.
Contact Tracing
Each guest aboard the ship will be required to wear a "tracelet". This is a wearable device that will help with contact tracing if a guest aboard the ship is diagnosed with COVID-19. The tracelet will be able to determine if you've been within 1 meter (3 feet) of a COVID-19 positive person, for at least 15 minutes.
As you can see, Royal Caribbean has made several changes and modifications to promote the health and safety of their guests. Royal Caribbean is excited to welcome you aboard one of their sailings!
