At Marvelous Mouse Travels, we love helping families plan unforgettable vacations. As travel advisors, one of the questions we get most often from cruise clients is “Should I choose Royal Caribbean or Disney Cruise Line for my next vacation?”
It’s a great question—and the truth is, both are fantastic cruise lines! I’ve personally sailed with both, and while each has its strengths, the best choice really depends on what you want most out of your cruise.
So today, I’m comparing Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line across five categories: accommodations, food, activities, private islands, and value.
Both cruise lines offer clean, well-appointed staterooms—but Disney Cruise Line gets the edge here for me.

Disney has some of the largest standard staterooms in the industry, and their split bathroom layout (available in most Oceanview and higher categories) is a total game changer for families. It makes getting ready in the morning—or winding down at night—so much easier.
If space and family-friendly design are priorities, Disney takes the win for accommodations.
Food is often a deciding factor for cruisers, and both lines deliver—just in different ways.
Royal Caribbean offers a huge variety of dining options, from casual cafés to upscale specialty restaurants. However, I’ve found that Disney Cruise Line tends to have higher-quality food that’s already included in your standard cruise fare.

On Royal Caribbean, you may need to pay extra for those truly standout meals, while Disney’s rotational dining restaurants consistently serve exceptional food without the need to upgrade.
So in terms of included food quality, Disney Cruise Line comes out ahead for me.
Here’s where Royal Caribbean shines.
If you’re looking for nonstop fun, their ships—especially the Oasis and Icon Class—are floating resorts packed with activities. Think rock climbing walls, zip lines, FlowRider surf simulators, mini golf, ice skating, and more. You truly can’t get bored!

Disney Cruise Line offers amazing entertainment and themed experiences (especially for kids and families), but Royal Caribbean wins when it comes to the sheer variety of onboard activities for all ages.
This one’s a tie in my book!
Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay is packed with things to do—water slides, pools, cabanas, and even a helium balloon ride. However, many of those experiences cost extra.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Castaway Cay offers a more laid-back, all-inclusive beach day feel. Only one Disney ship docks there at a time (as opposed to two at CocoCay), so it feels more peaceful and uncrowded.

If you want adventure and options, go with CocoCay.
If you want a relaxing beach day included in your fare, Castaway Cay is tough to beat.
Here’s where opinions really vary—but for me, Disney Cruise Line edges out Royal Caribbean in terms of overall value.
While Disney’s upfront price is higher, much more is included. On Royal Caribbean, extras like soda packages, specialty dining, and certain private island activities can add up quickly.

Once you factor in those costs, the total prices are surprisingly similar—but Disney tends to offer a more “all-inclusive” experience. I love being able to relax on vacation without thinking about what’s included or what might be an extra charge.
That said, Royal Caribbean is a fantastic choice for those who want flexibility and the ability to tailor their cruise experience to their budget.

Both cruise lines are incredible—it really just depends on your priorities.
