This was the year of the raptors at Universal Orlando Parks! The much anticipated new Velocicoaster opened in June. While watching the development of the track and it’s size I had my doubts as to how this ride would beat out my top Universal coasters The Hulk and The Rip Ride Rockit. I was looking forward to the ride but thinking it would be more of a themed experience similar to The Mummy and Hagrrid’s motorbikes. I was so very wrong! For any roller coaster enthusiast this ride is a must!
The Velocicoaster does have the theming in the line queues as I expected! The attention to detail and surprises along the queue walkthrough make you feel the movie. The excitement of the hunt builds inside you. I was scared. I was excited. I was wondering what was about to happen! It was the perfect rush while approaching the loading area.
You will not be able to have any loose items with you on the ride. Before the loading area the cast members will have you stop and put everything in a locker. You will need your ticket to save the locker space. Sorry, you are not going to get any amazing pictures on the ride as you do have to sacrifice the phone! There will be a metal detector checking you. At this part I knew I was about to be in for something amazing! (TIP: When you pick up your items after the ride you will not be in the same locker area. It’s easy to think you can’t find your locker but you are just opening it from the other side of the wall)
I have now given up my things and I am minutes from loading. I can see everyone’s faces returning from their experience and it pumps me up even more. I have all the butterflies in my tummy and I can’t stand still. The cast members are clapping at the returning riders and joking with the ones loading up. One cast member was pretending the lap bar wouldn’t go down! Oh, and yes, it’s ONLY a lap bar! There is nothing on your chest so you feel free and wonder how this can be safe... but okay let’s do it!
Once, the coaster starts and the raptors spot you the race is on! This ride is non stop. When you think it’s going to get to a slow part, guess again, it will push you even harder and faster. You are in constant motion twisting, turning, dipping, and in an uncertain state! What will be next is what you are asking yourself every second along the experience. I fell in love with my first ride so I decided to ride it back to back. Trying the back row and the front row are totally different rides each time. I can’t decide my favorite. I just know that this is my new “rope drop” Universal ride and has easily become my number one coaster to ride in Florida!
The Velocicoaster is unpredictable, thrilling, and a “hold onto your butts or anything else you can grab” kind of ride! It has been confirmed to be Florida’s fastest and tallest roller coaster! Be sure to walk all around the attraction as you’ll find great spots for photos, be able to watch the riders, and hear their screams! It is also a gorgeous sight to see at night!
Universal Orlando all I can say to you is “ Clever Girl.”
