Port Everglades, one of the newest and most bustling cruise ports in the US, is the perfect addition to the many Disney Cruise Line terminals. Having opened in Fall of 2023, the location, theming, and efficiency make this an excellent option to sail out of for your next Disney cruise. Inspired by the Pixar film "Finding Nemo," the terminal is a colorful underwater wonderland that will delight guests of all ages.
Located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Port Everglades is conveniently accessible from three major airports: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Miami International Airport (MIA), and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). For those arriving by train, Brightline offers a convenient shuttle stop at FLL, connecting Miami, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. With the FLL airport located a short 10-minute drive away, it is an inexpensive rideshare away. The hotel choices in the area are also plentiful and have excellent options to help with shuttling to the port or accommodating a pre-cruise stay.
At the terminal, porters are waiting for those who have not yet handed over their baggage (certain shuttle companies collect these ahead of time for guests) and help whisk away the luggage so it is not a worry for guests. If sailors forget or lose their luggage tags, it is not a concern, as the porters have extras. Inside the terminal, the theming continues with colorful accents, interactive displays, and plenty of photo ops to begin documenting the memories made on vacation.
The boarding process at DCL's terminal is known for its efficiency and smoothness. With multiple check-in counters, security checkpoints, and baggage handling services, you can expect a seamless transition from land to sea. Several shuttle buses unloaded when we arrived at the terminal. Though the lines seemed daunting, they moved very quickly and it was impressive how the crowds were handled and the waiting space did not feel crowded. Going through security was a breeze and clear instructions were at every checkpoint letting the sailors know exactly what was needed from them. The first area reminded guests to have boarding tickets and passports ready, while the security checkpoint reminded guests of what was allowed on the ship and certain items that needed to be removed from baggage.
The spacious waiting area is designed to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for guests. With plenty of seating, ample power outlets for charging devices, and USB ports conveniently located throughout, you can stay connected and entertained while you wait. Near the seating area, several vending machines offer cold drinks and various packaged snacks. The terminal also features four modern bathrooms for guests' convenience.
For the eagle-eyed Disney fans, keep an eye out for hidden Mickeys throughout the terminal. These cleverly placed Mickey Mouse icons are a fun way to add a touch of Disney magic to your embarkation experience. Be sure to look up and don't forget to snap a photo while walking through the beloved Mickey tunnel!
