One of the most enjoyed snacks in the parks, or at least in my opinion the most enjoyed snack, is popcorn! Popcorn can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Disney Parks and Resorts makes it so accessible with the popcorn buckets that not only double as a souvenir but also allow for a discounted refill option. However, this popcorn blog is not about the regular popcorn that guests can easily find around almost every corner of the parks. Here we will learn a little about the company that brings the delicious gourmet popcorn to the parks.
In 2018, Popcorn Junkie, was introduced into the parks for their delicious gourmet popcorn options. It started as a small storefront in Orlando, Florida, and is now serving thousands of guests every day across the entire Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts. Neal and Minetta Cosier, founders of Popcorn Junkie, began their small business in 2016 and joined forces with Disney just two years later. They now serve their gourmet popcorn across the parks, resorts, and even Disney Cruise Line.
The company has grown from two employees, Neal and Minetta, to nine employees. This allows them to still focus on bringing new flavors to the parks for guests to enjoy. The newest addition to the menu, and only for a limited time, is the Strawberry Crunch popcorn. It was introduced on the menu on National Popcorn Day, January 19, 2024, and will remain until Valentine’s Day. Strawberry Crunch can be found at Kernel Kitchen, which is located in the back corner of Main Street Confectionery inside Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park. At Kernel Kitchen, you can design your own bucket of popcorn starting with the gourmet flavors, then add toppings of your choice or choose the seasonal mixture like the current Sweetheart Popcorn.
A previous gourmet mixture selection for the holidays was the Holiday Peppermint Popcorn, while other well known regular flavors throughout the parks is Better Butter, Cheesy Cheddar, and the Crispy Caramel. These can be found at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park. EPCOT offers a Fruity Mix, and there are always seasonal mixes found throughout the entire parks and resorts.
While there are so many different varieties of popcorn, the gourmet varieties are some of the best mixtures and creations you can come up with.
