One thing that really did not receive very much attention recently was the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction anniversary. The attraction at Walt Disney World just celebrated its 50th Anniversary! This means it is not much younger than Disney’s Magic Kingdom itself. The attraction began welcoming guests during the Christmas season in 1973.

This attraction was one of the first major openings after the initial park opening in 1971. The Disneyland attraction opened in 1967 and was the last attraction that Walt Disney was able to oversee.
The Disney Blog also mentions that there is a series on Disney+ called “Behind the Attraction '' that gives guests a look at what makes the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, how it was designed, and the thought process behind each room. This original series has two seasons, the first with 10 episodes and the second with just 6 episodes. The Pirates of the Caribbean episode is the first one on season two.
The episode recalls the stories that Walt Disney enjoyed. It also shows that the attraction was “initially conceived as a wax museum” as stated by Disney Parks Blog. There were many growths in technology that has allowed the attraction to become what it is today with the amazing animatronics that are there today.

Also shared recently at the Destination D23 event, there will be a new lounge themed after Pirates of the Caribbean that will be located inside Adventureland in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park.
This attraction will probably forever be one of my favorites and a must-do every time we visit the park. Have you had the chance to experience this amazing ride?
