This week brings some fun and exciting news, and some news that will not be so exciting for some guests. I do want to recap first, to maybe help with the news.
Recently announced, Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park will be receiving a very large expansion with a few new attractions! With that, Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are being transformed into a new area that is set to be used for not one, but two “Cars” attractions. One of the attractions is geared towards the entire family while the other may be for those that meet a height requirement.
Now, back to this week's announcement. The not-so-exciting news is that the current show, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, has been set to close on October 7, 2024. The show is currently held inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios, on Sunset Boulevard. This fun and thrilling adventure is for the entire family. Lighting McQueen teaches racers of all ages what it takes to be a champion race car during this show. It is also the only current area in Walt Disney World that offers anything “Cars” related. That will all change when the construction for the new attractions at Disney’s Magic Kingdom begins in 2025.
The exciting side of the news is that there is something already in the works to replace the show! Get ready for more villains on Sunset Boulevard! Disney Destinations describes the new entertainment option as an “all-new live production starring everyone’s favorite Disney Villains.”
Set to open Summer 2025, Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent are set to take the stage, along with the Magic Mirror in this live production. This is just the first step of all of the new Disney Villain entertainment and attractions joining Walt Disney World with the announcement of the brand new Villains-themed land that is joining Disney’s Magic Kingdom!
