Those of you who had the chance to visit Walt Disney World back in the days of the FastPass+ system may remember having the opportunity to choose a few attractions ahead of time and continuing on throughout your day. The delightful news this week is that something very similar is returning to the parks with the new Lightning Lane system!

Starting today, July 24, 2024, the current Disney Genie+ will become Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and the individual Lightning Lane will now be the Lightning Lane Single Pass. With this change comes the opportunity to purchase and plan the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass in advance. Here you will select up to 3 Lightning Lane selections at a single park. Guests with reservations on Walt Disney World property will have access to the new Lightning Lane system up to seven days prior to arrival at 7 a.m. EST for the length of their stay. Guests staying off of Walt Disney World property will gain access to the system three days prior to arrival at the parks at 7 a.m. EST for the duration of their ticket.
Let’s dig a little deeper into each variety of the Lightning Lane. The Lightning Lane Single Pass is still a separate purchase for the selected attraction. Each park will have this option for the most on demand attractions in the park. Guests will be able to purchase the Lightning Lane Single Pass for up to two attractions per day. The Lightning Lane Multi-Pass does not have to be purchased to utilize the Lightning Lane Single Pass, they are two separate entities for attractions, but utilize the same Lightning Lane queue.
Lightning Lane Multi-Pass has two groups at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT. One of the selections can be from Group 1, and the remaining can be chosen from Group 2. Return times will be available to choose from when the booking window opens. Once guests scan into their first Lightning Lane, they can then proceed to select a new attraction for a later time, this is also the time that guests can choose a Lightning Lane selection at a different Walt Disney World park if they have valid Park Hopper tickets.
Virtual Queues and Stand-By Queues are not affected by this change, and will both remain accessible in your valid park admission.
