So many avid Disney travelers and those that have traveled to the Walt Disney World theme parks more than five years ago remember the process for arrival and departure to your resort. Disney’s Magical Express was the way to arrive and depart your vacation in style. Luggage tags arrived in the mail, you dropped your luggage at your departure airport counter, and it was whisked off to your resort. When your vacation concluded, you dropped your luggage at the front of your resort and you picked it back up once you landed back home. While that magical process has not returned, there is a new program that is in the pilot testing phase that could bring back some magical transfers back to the resorts. It's called Luggage Assistance.
Beginning the first week of April 2025 the pilot program that offers guests flying with Southwest will have the opportunity to have their luggage transferred to the airport. This service will only be available at select resorts. The resorts that will be participating are: Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and finally Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
This pilot program will use a third party vendor to transfer the luggage. This collaboration is in part with Orlando International Airport to assist those families traveling to the area.
To utilize this service any flights departing prior to 1 p.m. must have their luggage at Luggage Assistance by 1 a.m. the morning of their flight. If a flight departs after 1 p.m. luggage must be turned into Luggage Assistance at least 4 hours prior to the flight departure time but no later than 1 p.m.
The return of a program similar to the previously provided service through Walt Disney World is going to be a huge relief to those families traveling with children. Managing luggage through the hustle and bustle of the airport is a lot of effort, and this will help with that.
