It’s no secret that Royal Caribbean is known as one of the top family-friendly cruise lines in the industry. There are many offerings on their ships that give them this distinction; waterslides, amazing kids clubs, great food, family entertainment, and more! There are also plenty of opportunities for adults to have child-free time. Whether you’re traveling without children or would just like to get away for a little adult time, Royal Caribbean has you covered! I recently sailed on Independence of the Seas without my children, and I was able to experience some fun activities geared towards adults. Here are my top recommendations for your adult getaway onboard Independence of the Seas!
The Solarium is geared specifically for adults. Located on deck 11, guests must be 18 or older to enter the area. This peaceful space features a pool, a bar, and 2 whirlpools that extend 12 feet beyond the sides of the ship. There are plenty of loungers for guests to relax and enjoy the serenity. Conveniently located next to the Vitality Spa and Fitness Center, this would be the perfect space to spend a day at sea!
Take advantage of the wide selection of beverages at the 14 bars on Independence of the Seas. There is something to be found for all tastes; from Olive or Twist Martini Bar to Ale & Anchor Pub, the variety is endless! Try a different cocktail each day by sampling the drink of the day, featured in each bar on the ship. Attend a cocktail making class and learn how to make your favorite vacation drinks. Make sure to purchase the Deluxe Beverage Package for unlimited drinks for the entire cruise! The Beverage packages may be purchased by visiting the Cruise Planner website.
Independence of the Seas has several specialty restaurants to choose from featuring cuisines from around the world. These restaurants are not included in the price of the sailing, and reservations are recommended. You can reserve a table by visiting the dining venues onboard, using the Royal app, or by dialing 7000 from your room phone. There are a couple of Dining Packages available for pre-purchase through the Cruise Planner website. Send the kids to the youth clubs and enjoy a romantic date night at one of these fabulous restaurants!
Enjoy the vibrant nightlife onboard Independence of the Seas! There are so many options to choose from, it’s impossible to do everything in one sailing! Test your knowledge in trivia, sing your heart out to karaoke in the Star Lounge, laugh the night away with the comedy headliner, or participate in an adult-only game show. There are also gatherings throughout the evening, including a singles gathering and a LGBTQ gathering. Visit the Casino Royale on deck 4 and enjoy a game of blackjack. One of my favorite events is the Greatest 80’s Party Ever, hosted by the cruise director!
