The perfect size! The Zuiderdam is a Vista class ship accommodating 1,916 passengers. There is plenty to do onboard and it never feels crowded.
Let's start with food! The food onboard was great! For breakfast you can visit the main dining room, the buffet or order room service. For lunch, head to Dive In by the pool for a great burger and fries or you visit the Lido Market Buffet or Main Dining Room. For dinner you have a couple of specialty dining available to you, including Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto and also a Morimoto at Sea pop up one night.
The ship is definitely not lacking in activities. The crafts offered in the Crow's Nest are quite popular. Get there early as it is first come first serve. You can also grab a board game or work on a puzzle in the Crow's Nest. This is a great area with a lively bar and stunning views of the ocean.
You can also enjoy a game of Bingo, test your luck in the casino, play pickleball, cornhole or grab some friends and play trivia.
Do you like to shop? The Zuiderdam has plenty of shops where you can purchase cruise momentos, jewelry, purses, perfumes, sheets and so much more.
There are 2 pools, both on deck 9. One is mid ship and the other one is located aft, this is also the smoking section.
Eight bars and lounges are spread throughout the vessel, including a piano bar, sports bar, bars by both pools and a lovely sea view bar.
Our balcony cabin was wonderful. We had plenty of space. Our bathroom had a bathtub, with shampoo, conditioner and bodywash all by Elemis. We also had USB ports by the headboard so we could charge our phones at night. Bathrobes were provided and they even had extra blankets you could use on the balcony for the cooler days.
The ship's crew was fantastic. Always greeting you with a smile. They were always so friendly and present. Officers were always waiting for us on the dock to welcome us back from our port adventures.
Of course they also have a gym and fabulous spa. Get your workout in and then have a relaxing pedicure followed by a hot stone massage and facial.
Holland American's Zuiderdam is perfect for getting into those smaller Alaskan ports and was great for our New England/Canada itinerary.
