It has officially reached the beginning of the Halloween season at Disneyland Resort! While the actual festivities do not kick off for quite a few more weeks, the Haunted Mansion reopens officially today with its holiday layover.

The Haunted Mansion attraction is amazing on its own, but when you have the Halloween layover, it is definitely a different experience. During the Halloween and Christmas season The Haunted Mansion has a different decorative theme,  “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

The entire attraction receives a makeover, including the outside and the queue with theming from the film. Things like the hearse, the grave stones, and even the entire outside receive a halloween themed facelift.

Almost everything on the interior receives a layover for the season. The artwork on the interior is some of the first noticeable change. The imagineers think of every detail, including the casket scene and decked out graveyard scene.

While guests are riding through the attraction, there is one large change that is different each year. The large gingerbread house that is featured in the “frightful fête’s ballroom scene. Every year the imagineers create a new gingerbread scene for this specific area of the attraction.

When the attraction opens for the season, the outdoor queue will still be under construction. To access the attraction during the remaining portion of the construction, guests will have to use a virtual queue system. The virtual queue is at no charge, and will provide guests a return time once their number is called.
