Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

By:  Donna Bulieris, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

This past week I had the opportunity to ride the new Marvel-themed coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and it was literally out of this world!

Cosmic Rewind Outside

I was so fortunate to be invited to attend a special media event with my agency, Marvelous Mouse Travels, to preview this new ride at Epcot. Here is my spoiler-free overview.

Cosmic Rewind Galaxarium

Located in what is now being referred to as the “Other-World Showcase” pavilion at EPCOT, Cosmic Rewind is in the old Universe of Energy building. The queue is separated into 3 areas, the Galaxarium, a planetarium type space with a sleek, futuristic design, the Xandar Gallery where you can learn more about the people of Xandar, and then the Phase chamber.

Each area was extremely well designed, and I especially loved the Xandar Gallery complete with models of the city of Xandar and the Starships. There is also a little spoof on a morning talk show called “Good Morning Xandar" with Gamora and Peter Quill being interviewed and dropping some Easter eggs.

Once we entered into the Phase Chamber, this was where the true experience officially began. We were introduced to the Nova Corps and learned more about why the people of Xandar have chosen Epcot for their site. The technology in this area is really neat and I won’t give anything away! Let’s just say it sets the stage for the ride portion and oh what a ride!!

Cosmic Rewind Ride Cars

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is called an Omnicoaster, think Space Mountain meets Buzz Lightyear. The individual ride vehicles spin in a controlled movement to allow you to view what is happening all around you. Each vehicle has speakers that play one of six possible songs from Peter Quill's tape. I was too busy screaming but others that I rode with said that there is also dialog and it can vary on each ride so you will want to ride this multiple times to have different experiences. I also heard that where you sit makes a difference, with the middle cars being the best to be able to see more of what is going on around you.  It was the smoothest coaster, it almost felt like we were gliding through space and dancing to the music. If you are prone to motion sickness this may affect you slightly. I tend to get dizzy on rides so I wore sea bands and they seemed to help.

Some fun facts- it is the longest indoor coaster in the world and features a reverse launch. There is an on-ride photo pass taken early on into the ride.

Tip: if you have long hair be sure to tie your hair back before the ride starts so that you can see what’s happening!

I will say that you do not have to be a Guardians of the Galaxy fan to enjoy this ride, but if you are, like me, it just makes it all the more better. This is now my new favorite ride and I cannot wait to experience it again!
