The show opens with the captivating Grandma Tala, who narrates the story from modern-day Motunui. For us, Grandma Tala truly steals the show, bringing heart and humor to her role as the spiritual guide of Moana.
One of the standout features of the show is the incredible puppetry designed by Michael Curry, known for his groundbreaking work on “The Lion King” on Broadway. The puppets in “The Tale of Moana” are nothing short of amazing, adding an extra layer of magic to the production and bringing the characters to life in a whole new way.
Before the show began, we had the pleasure of hearing from the shows music and cultural consultant, Aaron Sala. He shared insights into the care taken to ensure the performance honors the diverse Pacific Island cultures that inspired “Moana.” Sala also announced that this production features the most diverse cast ever assembled on a Disney Cruise Line stage, a testament to Disney’s commitment to authenticity and representation. He set the helped set tone for the show with a beautiful traditional chant.
Act 1 left us captivated, and we can hardly wait to experience the entire show. The sets are nothing short of incredible, transporting us to the lush landscapes of Motunui. We love the blend of new songs alongside the classic tunes we already know and love.
