On May 28, 2024 a gorgeous resort celebrated its 30th anniversary! Yes, that’s right, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge opened to guests 30 years ago! This resort is also one of the most beautifully decorated for the holiday season in my opinion. This week let’s check out a few “hidden details,” as Disney Parks Blog says.

The first tidbit of information is regarding the wood and makes up the lodge. Did you know that if you take the pieces of wood that construct Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and place each piece end-to-end that it would reach over 40 miles in length? That is a mind blowing fact, maybe you already knew that. As the Walt Disney Company is very environmentally friendly, the wood used was also only taken from “standing dead forests in Oregon and Montana,” as stated in the Disney Parks Blog.
The next piece of knowledge is in regards to the gorgeous 82-foot high fireplace that is showcased in the lobby of the resort. The fireplace was designed after the Grand Canyon! It features more than 100 colors in layers of rock, and also holds fossilized remains from animals and plants from the prehistoric era.
Continuing through the lobby and the theme of the resort, there are lodgepoles. The lodgepoles contain a variety of animal carvings. These are hand carved pieces and those animals were placed strategically based on their “life zone” according to Disney Parks Blog. Some animal carvings that you may see are deer, raccoons, a beaver, and so many more.

If you are taking in the resort and find yourself in the Boulder Ridge Villas area, also home of the Disney Vacation Club section, you will find the Carolwood Pacific Room. This room is designed for a peaceful moment, but also houses games such as checkers. This space however is dedicated to one thing Walt Disney enjoyed most, trains. Guests can view a scaled down piece of the Carolwood Pacific that Walt designed along with a piece of the authentic track.
The last hidden detail at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and certainly my favorite activity to do while on property, is the hidden Mickeys! It is said that the resort has quite a few, have you seen any?
