Disney's Private Island, Castaway Cay

By:  Dena Wright, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent
Wow! What a trip! I recently sailed on the Disney Dream and visited Disney's gorgeous private island, Castaway Cay.  When approaching the island, I went to the top front deck of the ship to catch a view of the gorgeous sunrise over Castaway Cay. Can you believe this picture is with no filters?!  I HIGHLY recommend doing this, as it is so peaceful and a wonderful way to start the day!
When exiting the ship, you will pass some buildings, including Castaway Cay's post office. The post office is not open on the inside right now, but you can bring a postcard with you or purchase one in the gift shop on the ship, which is what I did.  If you go to guest services onboard, you can buy a Bahamian stamp for $.65 and mail your postcard on the island.  When it is received, it will be postmarked from Castaway Cay.  I think this is such a unique souvenir!
After entering the island, you will have two choices to get to the beaches.  You can either walk or ride a tram.  I recommend walking because there are characters all along the short path to the beach.  There were very few guests walking, so I was able to talk to the characters and had lots of interaction that would be missed if you take the tram.
I did transfer to a tram after reaching the family beach area and headed to the adults-only area, Serenity Bay. What an oasis!  They had floats and inner tubes that can be rented for $13.  I rented a float and enjoyed drifting around the shallow and clear waters in the adults only area.  Refreshing cucumber and lemon infused water was available for free, and it was cold and delicious!
After spending some time at Serenity Bay, I decided to head to the family beach area and get some lunch and enjoy the beach, water playground, and snorkeling.  Lunch on the island was included and was fresh and yummy! I was torn between the brisket sandwich and burger, but I ultimately decided to try the cheeseburger! So good! For dessert, I even had a banana and strawberry swirl cone!
There are two areas of the family beach.  One has a large water playground that you swim to in order to access it, and the other side has a snorkeling area.  Snorkel equipment can be rented, but you can also bring your own.  Life jackets are free of charge. Floats and inner tubes are also available at the family beach.
When I traveled back to the ship, I took the tram, which was clean and had passengers seated every other row. An ice-cold washcloth even awaited me before boarding  the ship! Wow!
Castaway Cay really was paradise, and with limited capacity, there were no problems getting beach and lounge chairs, no lines to get food, and it was very relaxing.   I can't wait to go back!
