Disneyland Shows the Love

By:  Coleen Gomez, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

It's no surprise that Walt Disney and his crew put a lot of love and energy into creating and building Disneyland. He put his heart into this project, and it shows in every corner of the park. We also know that his love for Lillian, his wife, was a Hollywood-style romance. After all these years, Disney still makes it a point to commemorate "Love" around the park.

Walt and Lillian invited 300 of their closest friends to celebrate their 30th anniversary four days before the park officially opened in 1955. This was, in a sense, Disneyland's first special ticketed event. Even now, 67 years later, guests can still enjoy romantic evenings at the Disneyland Resort. "Sweethearts Night," a special ticketed after-hours event, offers a variety of exciting things to share with your loved one. Is a moonlight riverboat tour on Mark Twain's steamboat appealing? Imagine yourself on a boat in the moonlight, being serenaded by a jazz band singing classic Disney love tunes.

After a relaxing sail, it was time to savor a delicious meal. Around every corner, there are delicious offerings and refreshments, all of which are themed accordingly. The Plaza Inn is serving a three-course supper for two with a decorative homage to Lady & the Tramp, as well as a cute photo op at "Tony's Restaurant." Additional delicacies include heart-shaped ravioli, heart-shaped butter biscuits, "Star-Berry" cheesecake milkshake, and, of course, lovely red strawberry churros! Don't forget to get your watermelon-cherry Dole Whip!

There are numerous Valentine / loved-themed photo opportunities placed around the park. How about posing with your significant other inside Cinderella's carriage in front of the Disneyland castle?  In front of It's a Small World, Princess Jasmine's balcony is set up. If you're a fan of The Little Mermaid, you must board Prince Eric's boat (imagine a lagoon scene with "kiss the girl" playing in the background).

Everyone enjoys Disneyland, and what better way to express your love for someone, something, or just your love for all things Disney than to do so here? If you'd want to stay up to speed on what's going on at the Disney Parks, subscribe to our podcast!
