For years, guests have worn the technology of MagicBands to access their rooms, make purchases, add photos to their Disney PhotoPass account, and even utilizing the now Lightning Lane for attractions. This technology was used at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Parks, and recently added to the Disney Cruise Line with DisneyBand+.
Beginning March 19, 2024 guests sailing any of the Disney Cruise Line ships will have the ability to use DisneyBand+ technology on their sailings. The new technology was introduced on select sailings beginning Summer 2023, and slowly made its way to the entire fleet with the Disney Wonder being the last of the ships receiving the upgrade.
Guests are able to purchase the DisneyBand+ between 11 and 45 days prior to their sailing, however the reservation must be paid in full to do so. The DisneyBand+ is so helpful in so many different ways! Instead of carrying their Key to the World card around the ship, the band replaces the card for almost everything! Just like at the parks, guests will be able to attach a credit card to their stateroom folio and make purchases for beverages and in the onboard merchandise shops. It will also allow guests to gain access to their staterooms.
Children wearing the DisneyBand+ will be able to use the technology for scanning in and out of the amazing kids clubs! Did you know there are sensors in the kids clubs to help determine which room they are in? The bands provided, Disney Oceaneer Bands, or their DisneyBand+ have the same technology.
While the bands are handy and make things like purchases and entering your stateroom easily accessible, guests are still required to have their Key to the World cards for embarking and disembarking the ship. This is for both upon arrival, ports of call, and disembarking when your sailing is sadly over.
