With the highly anticipated opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure for Summer 2024 at Walt Disney World and later this year at Disneyland Resort, we are slowly receiving tidbits of information and teasers regarding the attractions. We also have the inside information, along with the rest of the world, that shows the behind the scenes of the creation of the stunning animatronics at the parks. The new YouTube series is called “We Call It Imagineering.”
The Audio-Animatronics has been around for nearly 80 years and has come so far! It started in the 1940s with a singing bird in New Orleans and has been developed over the years to introduce the most astonishing ones that will be featured in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in the parks.

The 1960s brought some park favorites in the animatronic world, from the animals in the Jungle Cruise to Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. The Tiki Room features over 200 singing bird figures hanging from the ceiling, walls, and even entering from the center of the room. This show was “the first to integrate Audio-Animatronics Technology” as stated by Brian Orr, Show Systems Studio Executive.
Over the next two decades the technology advances and continues to grow until 1989 when the first A-100 figure debuts. This new technology allows the animatronics to have smoother movements that are more lifelike than ever before. This is the technology that you will find on attractions like Na’vi River Journey, Rise of the Resistance, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, and more!
2024 brings the most advanced technology of Audio-Animatronics to date inside Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The movements, sounds, and lifelike cartoons look astonishing! So many guests are anxiously waiting for the grand opening date of the attraction at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.
