Dining on the Disney Dream

By:  Michele Benard, a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

One thing I know is you will not starve when you are on a Disney cruise. Let’s talk food while on a Disney cruise...the options are almost endless with so many options so  I’m going to break it up for you.

Cabanas

This is your buffet.   Like most cruise lines, you have your buffet where you can eat throughout the day. Since COVID, the buffets have changed; some have people serving you. Here you can get a wide variety of food.

If you have been on a cruise but not a Disney cruise, then you know that at dinner you are assigned to a dining room. This is where you will go for dinner every night and sit at the same table with the same wait staff. On a Disney cruise, the same process applies but multiplied. On a Disney cruise you are assigned not one, not two, but three dining rooms. Each night you will go to your dining room and your wait staff follows you each night.

Royal Palace -  fit for a princess

Royal Palace is a French-inspired restaurant that is princess themed. Located on deck 4. Here you can eat dinner on the night you are assigned to Royal Palace as well as breakfast if you wish. You are given a menu where you can choose from different options.

Animator’s Palate

The first thing you will notice is the screens on the walls and all the drawings. Disney goes above and beyond in theming the dining rooms. If your lucky, Crush will come and talk with you as you are waiting for your food as he moves around the dining room.

Some of the main entrees on the menu you will find are as follows:

  • Grilled Pacific Black Cod — with Sauteed Morel Mushrooms on a yellow Split Pea Puree
  • Animator’s Trio of Veal — Grilled Tenderloin, pulled Shank and Tortellacci Pasta with a Sun-dried tomato and Sage reduction and garnished with a Potato Crisp
  • White Shrimp Pennette Pasta — Tossed with a Basil and Reggiano Parmesan Cheese Sauce and topped with Parmesan Cheese Wafer
  • Stir-Fry Vegetables on Fried Noodles, Hearts of Palm and oyster Glaze
  • Lemon-thyme Marinated Organic Chicken Breast — With Sour Cream Mashed potatoes, Roasted Root Vegetables and Grain Mustard Jus
  • Black Bean Chipotle Cakes — over Corn Kernels and Brown Rice topped with Tomato-Cilantro Salsa

Enchanted Garden

The third and final assigned dining room is the Enchanted Garden.  This restaurant is elegant and beautiful, inspired by gardens in Paris. This, too, is open for breakfast as well as lunch on sea days. On our night eating here was the last night of our cruise the first I noticed was this restaurant was stunning.

I started my meal with a Cucumber Garden Roll: Filled with Julienne of Carrots, Bell Peppers and Zucchini, flavored with Cilantro and dressed with White Shoyu and Lemon Dressing.  I also tried the Heirloom Tomato Soup: With Sour Cream, Croutons, and Basil.  For my main course I ordered Marjoram Scented All-Natural Chicken: Half a Chicken served with oven-baked Sweet Potatoes and sautéed Baby Spinach.

The Dessert was Chocolate Brownie Sundae – Peanut Butter Brownie Bites with Rich Chocolate Ice Cream Whipped Cream, and Chocolate Fudge Sauce. I also tried Orange Yogurt Cake – with Citrus Syrup and Vanilla Sauce.

The other thing to note is at all of the places to eat if you have a food allergy or Gluten allergy they have options on the menu,  but they also will show you the menu for the next night have you pick out things you may want and the chef will come up with dishes for you.

A side note: if you ask for a Mickey bar for dessert they will bring it to you!

There are also two adult only restaurants on board which are an additional cost.  These are Palo and Remy. Each of these restaurants has an additional charge and is open to the adults over 18 only.

Other areas onboard to eat are:

Flo's Cafe. If looking for something quick to grab to take back to the pool here is your spot you can choose from pizza, Hamburgers, sandwiches. If you head to the other side you can get ice cream.

Still looking for a sweet treat you can head into Vanellope’s sweets and treats.  In here you can get Mickey-shaped cupcakes, Gelato, Macarons and so much more. This is an additional cost.

If you are still hungry, you can order room service from your stateroom. We ordered milk and cookies for a late-night snack.

Drink stations are also something unique with Disney.   Unlike other cruise lines, soda is included with your Disney cruise.  You have access to this.

You can eat around the clock for your entire cruise and still not eat everything you want
