Juneau, Alaska! We have made it to our first port. This was the port that our shopping presenter informed us would be a great location to collect souvenirs. With this in mind we made sure to take our backpacks with us so we could easily carry back all of our goodies. We ported down the road a bit from the main part of Juneau and we were glad to see the sun had followed us from Hubbard Glacier. We chose to walk the 1 mile into town and soak in all of the fresh air and sun rays. Once again the sun surprised us and we did have to peel off some layers. This is why wearing layers in Alaska is important. You never know when you will need to adjust due to the weather.
We booked an excursion today to ride the Goldbelt Tram. Fun fact about this excursion, you get to ride it as many times as you would like throughout the day. We did get an early start to the day so we took it up and when we reached the top we soaked in the views. You could see quite far and every direction you turned had a different perspective to offer. At the top is a little gift shop with wonderful local items you could bring home as a memento of your travels. Down the stairs was the restaurant where you could try local beer and salmon and sit out back and take in the fresh air and mountain sights. This is also a great place to visit with other travelers and learn a little about their journey.

Following our ride up and down Mount Roberts, we decided to take in a little of that recommended shopping. There were so many fun items like shirts, smoked salmon, jewelry, quilts, furs, and all sorts of exciting souvenirs. Good thing we brought those backpacks!
Since we had a 5:15 dining time we didn’t get to enjoy the sunset from the top of Goldbelt Tram, but we heard that is a great opportunity if you can do it. After dinner we headed up to one of the upper decks to lounge out and watch as the ship pulled away from port. Goodbye Juneau, until we meet again!

Following a little relaxation we wanted to enjoy some laughs so we found a competition that involved using household items. We got there early to get front row seats and giggled and chuckled as we watched our fellow travelers try to stack solo cups, catch pins when they were tossed in the air, and knock over cups with a stocking and ball attached to their heads. Sometimes the simple things can bring such joy!
