Experience Kennedy Space Center!

August 24, 2020 By Marvelous Mouse Travels

Thank you Megan Guinnup for this fun look at Kennedy Space Center!

Kennedy Space Center is located in Port Canaveral, Florida and is the perfect way to spend a day before or after you cruise. Many people like to come in a day before their cruise so that they can make sure that travel delays don’t prevent them from making it to the ship on time and to get a head start on their vacation if they get an early boarding time (some ships board as early as 10:30 am!).

On an agency training trip to Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach Area, we were able to spend a day at Kennedy Space Center. There are so many interactive exhibits and opportunities to learn about space exploration.

We started off with a bus tour out to the launch sites and buildings where they assemble to rockets for launch. At one time, the vehicle assembly building at the Kennedy Space Center was considered the largest enclosed structure in the U.S! As part of the bus tour, we visited the Apollo/Saturn V Center where the full Apollo shuttle is located on display (spoiler alert: it was never sent to space). It is absolutely amazing to stand underneath such a massive structure.  At this center, there are exhibits about the first landing on the moon, the invention of the space pen (and other inventions that have come out of the space program like memory foam, cochlear implants, and prosthetic limbs). Kids and kids at heart will also enjoy touching an actual moon rock!

One of the other impressive things to visit at the Kennedy Space Center is the permanent home of the actual space shuttle Atlantis. In the same building you can strap yourself in for liftoff at the Shuttle Launch Experience®. There is also a model play station for kids designed after the International Space Station and a two story tall Rocket slide that kids can play on to entertain themselves while the big kids explore the exhibit.

One of the coolest things we experienced, however, was the add-on experience Lunch with an Astronaut. There was a catered buffet lunch in a conference room and while we were enjoying the meal heard from a real life Astronaut, Steve Smith, who was fortunate enough to experience four space flights covering 16 million miles and seven space walks totaling 49 hours and 25 minutes. He told his story about applying to the space program, what it was like to prepare for a mission and to be in space. Then we got to ask him whatever questions we wanted for about 20 minutes. It was fascinating and I highly recommend it as an add-on experience if you are spending a full day at Kennedy Space Center.

It really was a great way to spend the day learning and appreciating the history of the U.S Space Program. Make sure to ask your Marvelous Mouse Travels agent about adding this experience onto your pre or post cruise plans or even onto a Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando vacation as a break day from the parks.

A Fun Way to Get Around the Island of St Lucia!

July 31, 2020 By Marvelous Mouse Travels

A big thank you to Megan Guinnup for this fun look at the helicopter transfers in St Lucia!

I had the privilege of attending on-site training at the three Sandals Luxury All-Inclusive Resorts
in St Lucia! A ground transfer is included with your reservation at all Sandals resorts,
but the travel time from the airport to the resorts in St Lucia is pretty long – one and a half to two
hours! Don’t want to spend that precious pool and beach time in the car? Then try a helicopter
transfer!

I took the helicopter transfer with a few other agents and I was terrified. I had never been in a
helicopter and wasn’t so sure I was going to like it. I was so wrong – it was amazing!!! The ride
itself was about 12 minutes and the pilot was super nice. We saw the island and all of its
beauty from above while the pilot pointed out a few interesting sites – like where one of the
Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed and where the Black Pearl now resides!

If you’re considering a vacation or honeymoon to St Lucia, I highly recommend asking your
Marvelous Mouse Travels Agent about booking a helicopter transfer – you won’t regret it!

What You Need to Know About Lockers at Universal Orlando!

July 28, 2020 By Marvelous Mouse Travels

Thank you Marisha Gordon for this helpful information!

Some rides at Universal Studios, Orlando do not allow the rider to carry any personal items on the ride. This includes cell phones, keys, wallets etc. Before entering the ride que for those specific rides, you will have to walk through a metal detector to insure you have nothing on you. The rides that do not allow personal items do have lockers stationed near the entrance for your use.

There are two sizes of lockers available. A small size and a larger size. The small size can easily fit any loose items from your pockets along with a small bag or an extra jacket for example. If you have a large bag, popcorn buckets, or drink cups and such you will need the larger size locker.

The small size lockers are free to use while riding, the larger size are $2 while you ride.

Tip: each theme park ticket is entitled to one free small locker. If you have lots of small items, and a few guests riding, everyone can split their stuff between lockers.

I’m going to go jump on The Incredible Hulk now! 🙂

Top 7 Tips for Planning a Vacation to Universal Studios

June 29, 2020 By Marvelous Mouse Travels

Thank you Katie Eadie for these awesome vacation tips!

Are you planning a trip to Universal Studios soon and looking for information on the best way to start
planning? Look no further! I have the post for you!

1. First things first, use a travel agent! Here at Marvelous Mouse Travels, we are highly trained in
all things Universal! We know the best resorts to stay in, we have access to the same deals that
Universal has on their website, we send free tips and information for the parks, and best of all,
it’s FREE to book with us! Another awesome perk of booking with Marvelous Mouse Travels is
that no matter if you’re staying on property in one of Universal’s resorts or off property in a
hotel or rental home, you still get early entry into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and
Volcano Bay! How amazing is that??
2. Stay at one of Universal’s Studios on-property Resorts. There are 8 resorts to choose from and a
resort for everyone’s budget! If you choose to stay in one of the three Premier Resorts on
property, you receive complimentary Express Passes for your length of stay! That’s an awesome
perk! On property resorts also have transportation to and from the parks! There’s no need to
drive your car over to the parks because Universal Resorts have you covered! You can hop on a
bus or boat (depending on your resort) and be there in no time at all! If you stay at Cabana Bay
Resort, resort guests have a private entrance to Volcano Bay!
3. Make sure to purchase Park to Park Tickets. I always emphasize this because there’s so much to
do in both parks and you want to make sure to experience it all! If you are a Harry Potter fanatic
like me, you definitely don’t want to miss out on the Hogwarts Express! Hogwarts Express runs
between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios, so the only way you are able to ride it is if
you have the Park to Park Ticket option! It also is a good option because if one of the parks
closes early, you will be able to hop over to another park to finish out the evening!
4. Splurge on the Unlimited Express Pass. If you want to make the most of your visit and your time,
the Express Pass is for you! The Express Pass gives you the opportunity to skip the line and have
a much shorter wait time! If you have the Unlimited Express Pass, then you can do it multiple
times! Also, remember that if you stay in one of Universal’s premier resorts, you get the
complimentary Unlimited Express Pass!
5. Consider the Dining Plan! Universal Studios has several options for dining plans while on
vacation, and there are so many snacks and restaurants choose from! Pre-purchasing the dining
plan allows you to leave the stress of worrying about your food behind! There is an option for
everyone and every budget, so make sure to ask your travel agent about your options for dining.
6. Plan a day at Volcano Bay. Volcano Bay is a wonderful edition to Universal Studios and a great
option on a hot day! There are tons of water slides, a lazy river, a giant wave pool, smaller areas
to play for the little ones, and more! And if you book an on property resort or with a travel
agent, you can get in an hour earlier than other guests!
7. Don’t stress! Vacations are supposed to be fun and relaxing, and planning a Universal Studios
Vacation should be just that! With the help of a Marvelous Mouse Travel Agent, planning should
be a breeze!

Universal Parks for the Little Ones!

June 18, 2020 By Marvelous Mouse Travels

Marisha Gordon is a Marvelous Mouse agent and lives in the backyard of the Orlando theme parks! Having two small children of her own, she debunks a common misconception that Universal is only for older children!

It’s a question I hear a lot! “But what is there to do for little kids at Universal?” Well I’m here to tell you just about 2 of the MANY things there are for kids of all ages at Universal Studios, Orlando.

Over in Woody Woodpeckers’s KidZone is Fievel’s Playland.  Here you will find large movie props inspired by the animated movie American Tail.  Kids can run and explore all the fun while even enjoying some cool water splash areas.  There are bridges to cross, fountains to splash you, a large spider web to climb if you dare, and a huge kid sized water slide!  It’s over 3 stories tall and you can ride in the raft alone or with a parent. Riders must be 40 inches tall.

Right next door is Curious George Goes To Town. There’s a small playground there for kids of all ages, but it’s aimed at those under 5. It’s shaded and a nice place to relax out of the sun. Plus you never know who might stop by to say hello… hint: it might just be Curious George himself!

The large outdoor interactive play area is a huge hit for kids of all ages. They can run around, get some energy out and even get wet! You might want to throw a change of clothes in the bag if you plan to visit this area.

In the back of the Curious George play area is Man in the Big Yellow Hat’s Ball Factory. There are literally thousands of foam balls that can be thrown, caught, and launched at others within the play space. It’s lots of fun for everyone and again, a nice play to hang out in the shade. My kids love the suction cup hose that sucks the balls right up for them to gather and then shoot others with!  Enter with caution as there is no safe space from the foam balls once inside! 🙂

What’s your favorite place in Universal Studios to take little ones to? Let me know in the comments below and stay tuned for more of my favorite locations.
