Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the Parks

While April showers bring May flowers, the month of May also brings a celebration to the Disney Parks! May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Park will both be taking part in the celebration. Follow along as we dive deeper into the celebration and find out what is in store for the month of May.

Inside Disneyland Park, The Tropical Hideaway is currently offering a few items and four new menu items that are exclusive for the month. This venue alone makes a trip to Disneyland Resort worth it!  A new DOLE Whip can be found here, which sounds delicious! The Pineapple Coconut Float is Blue DOLE Pineapple-Coconut Juice that is topped with DOLE Whip soft serve, strawberry lava, and a gummy. Another new DOLE Whip is the DOLE Whip Pineapple Ginger Mint Float. This float features a pineapple-ginger juice and a smoked salt-spiced rim. For food there is a Shrimp and Chive Potstickers, Char Siu Bao, Lime Chicken Bao, Traditional Pork Lumpia, and finally a Sweet Lumpia. The Shrimp and Chive Potstickers are the only new items on the menu and will be available beginning May 1st.

Across the way at Disney California Adventure Park, there are quite a few locations that will have some specialty items in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, six to be exact. Thankfully there is an entire section of the park dedicated to Baymax and the Asian American heritage that is present in the film. Aunt Cass Cafe, located inside San Fransokyo, always has amazing food. Now there are three new items on top of the others that are already featured. A California Roll Sandwich is up first. Served on a milk bread bun, the shrimp crab salad, wasabi mayo, and yakisoba sauce are paired perfectly with a side of garlic chips. Also available soon on the menu is Yuzu Bread Pudding which is crafted by yuzu lemon curd and a blueberry compote that is placed on a graham cracker crust and topped with some delightful whipped topping. The final new item is a Yuzu Lemonade Coffee. This layered beverage consists of just the yuzu lemonade and a layer of cold brew coffee. There are also other items that are currently available that are generally on the menu.

Hollywood Lounge has a bright new beverage coming to the menu. The Dragon Fruit Soju Mule is a blend of soju, a dragon fruit syrup, splash of lime juice, and ginger ale. It is topped off with pieces of DOLE dragon fruit. This drink does look refreshing and would be perfect for taking a relaxing moment in the park.

Lucky Fortune Cookery and Port of San Fransokyo Cerveceria,  are other dining locations that offer delicious Asian American inspired dishes regularly. So many options, so little time.

The final location in the parks that will have new menu items for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is Studio Catering Co. An Orange Chicken Burrito that is made with crispy orange chicken pieces, lo mein noodles, vegetables, and egg fried rice. It also comes with hot sauce and fried wonton chips! The beverage that would pair perfectly with it is the new Lychee Pear Refresher. It is made with the perfect blend of lychee syrup and a pear puree then lychee popping spheres.

Up next is the dining locations at Walt Disney World. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park has two restaurants offering the same menu item that is not new to the parks, but has been offered before. The Moana Heart of Tafiti Cupcake can be found at Pizzafari and Restaurantosaurus for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This cupcake is made with a coconut cake with a pineapple custard center and topped with coconut buttercream and a white chocolate “Heart of Tafiti.”

At EPCOT the month of May still is filled with the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. The Outdoor Kitchen, Hanami, features so many delicious options! The first is not new, and has been around for quite a few Flower & Garden Festivals, Frushi! It is a favorite to some and consists of the fruits pineapple, lychee, and strawberries. The coconut rice and fruit is wrapped with a pink soy wrap and drizzled with raspberry sauce. New this year is a Steam Bun that is filled with vegetables and a plant based soy meat. The last new item at Hanami is the Ramen Cup. This perfect on-the-go snack is made with fresh vegetables, grilled chicken pieces, ramen, and topped with a dashi broth with a chili oil and yuzu.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a fun quick service dining option that showcases ABC television shows. ABC Commissary will offer the Pork Adobo. This dish contains soy and vinegar-braised pork, a side of steamed white rice, and a sesame-cucumber salad.

There are so many options to choose from between the parks and resorts at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Some were not mentioned here because they are always offered through the year or at the current festival.
