Alaska on Disney Cruise Line

Sea Day- Ship Bow

If you love the magic of Disney Cruise Line and you’ve experienced the Caribbean, it may start to be time to branch out to new locations.  We recently sailed on the Disney Wonder on a seven night sailing in Alaska.  Alaska on Disney Cruise Line offered all the Disney magic plus some really incredible and unique experiences.

Alaskan Itinerary

Our trip actually began in Vancouver.  We found the city to be very lovely and a great place to start!

Dawes Glacier

Then we were off to Alaska!  We had a day at sea before we arrived at Dawes Glacier.  Our weather on glacier day wasn’t ideal, but it was typical Alaskan weather-- cloudy, foggy, drizzling, and a bit windy.  While our landscape was a little harder to see, we’ve heard that cloudy days at the glacier make for bluer hues in the ice.  So if you sail and it’s also not a beautiful day, you’ll still have some great sights to take in.

The first port of call was Skayway.  Here we took a train ride up the White Pass and explored the town.  We found it to be very charming, like the set of a Hallmark movie.

Next up was Juneau.  On this day, we had a jam packed excursion day with whale watching, a visit to Mendenhall Glacier, and an outdoor salmon bake.  It was a longer day for us, but very memorable.  We got to see lots of amazing things, including a gorgeous whale fluke.

Ketchikan Lumberjack Show Alaska on Disney Cruise Line

Our last port of call was Ketchikan and we planned a lowkey day taking in the town and lumberjack show.  Well, little did we know that we would absolutely love the lumberjack show.  It was so entertaining and a very neat Alaskan experience.

Sea Day- Lighthouse

The final day of our cruise was another sea day.  It just so happened that the weather was absolutely gorgeous on our last day.  So as we were following along the coast of Canada, we were able to see breathtaking mountains, orcas, and quant lighthouse stations.

What Makes this Disney Itinerary Unique

Aside from the obvious difference in destination, Alaska on Disney Cruise Line had some unique offerings that you won’t find on any other itinerary.  On Caribbean and Bahamian sailings, you have the coveted Pirate Night.  While you won’t find that in Alaska, you will have Frozen Night.  This entire evening was filled with special activities like a deck party, unique offerings in the kids’ clubs, and a special menu at each dining room for dinner.

Donald's Outfit Alaska on Disney Cruise Line

What also makes the Alaskan itinerary unique are the character’s outfits.  I am obviously a grown adult, but I was so tickled to see my favorite pals sporting new attire.  For example, Mickey in his yellow fishing waders and Donald in his plaid lumberjack shirt and vest.  They were absolutely adorable and I enjoyed interacting with them.

A little side note here-- I personally feel that the character interactions on Disney Cruise Line go above and beyond what you experience in a theme park. So if you love the characters, you’ve got to get on a Disney ship!

The Disney Difference

They don’t call it the Disney Difference for no reason!  Disney Cruise Line has always had exceptional service and this itinerary provided the same level of service that I’ve grown to love. Every crew member-- from baristas to room attendants to the head of dining-- was truly attentive to our needs.  All of our Cast Member interactions were amazing, and we really felt like we made great relationships.

All in all, there’s no cruise like a Disney Cruise.  You are sure to love an Alaskan itinerary even if you are used to warmer destinations.
