Oftentimes, parents are torn on whether to travel with their young children. Reasons such as they are too young to remember, it’s too much hassle, or they can’t miss school. Although all valid reasons, I have some great reasons why its good for kids to travel at any age!
1.Adventure
No matter where you travel to, traveling can lead to adventure. Traveling takes us out of our comfort zones and we have an opportunity to explore new things!
2. Compassion
Traveling can foster compassion in our children. When we travel to different parts of the country or to other countries, we see how differently others live and in some cases how there are less fortunate in our own back yards.
3. Education
No matter where you travel, you can always find an opportunity to have a “teaching moment”. For example, if you are in a national park, you can ask your children to name some types of trees or birds. Think outside the box and the whole family can learn something new!
4. Memories
Your children might not remember every trip but they will have memories of some form. Whether through stories, pictures, or their memory, they will have something to cherish throughout life. Unlike toys, memories don’t go out of style!
5. Self Discovery
Your kids will not only learn about where they are traveling but they will start to learn what interests them. Will your child love history, nature, art, or geology? Traveling can help your children learn more about who they are, as well as, develop skills and characteristics they will use throughout their lives.
