We went to Aulani for our 5-year anniversary, and as expected it was an incredible opportunity to relax and reconnect with each other. Here are 5 must do’s when you vacation to Disney’s Aulani.
1. The “Spirit of Aloha” Luau. While there are many on the island, one of the best is the “Spirit of Aloha.” My husband was extremely hesitant as we go to Disney on a regular basis and he was worried it would be a “cheesy” presentation with over the top drama. In actuality Aulani takes significant pride in the representation of Polynesian culture. Their show was excellent, and the food and drinks were well worth the cost. This was a highlight of our trip! You still get to see a few of the classic Disney elements.
2. Rainbow Reef. This was by far my husband’s favorite activity! He loves snorkeling and collects saltwater fish so he may be a little biased, but this is still not to be missed! This is a 3,800 square foot saltwater pool with hundreds of fish swimming around you. While we enjoyed this activity, it is good for any age (assuming they are comfortable with swimming using a life preserver). It is a private reef, and importantly it is not connected to the actual ocean. This provides a great viewing opportunity for the good and not so good swimmers.
3. Live Music. After a long day exploring the island stop by the ‘Ōlelo room for a cocktail and to listen to local musicians play a mixture of current music, classic songs, and traditional Hawaiian music. It is a perfect way to relax and enjoy the pleasant evening as the sun sets over the ocean.
4. Character Dining at Makahiki-The Bounty of the Islands. You can’t do a Disney resort without a little traditional magic. This is a terrific meal with a wide variety of options for every guest. The benefit of a few classic Disney characters is just the icing on the cake!
5. 'Ama‘Ama. This is the signature dining experience at the resort. 'Ama'Ama is a high-end restaurant with a select menu emphasizing traditional Hawaiian cuisine with a few choices suitable for the pickiest of eaters. This is a perfect place for a special occasion or to celebrate an evening in paradise!
