When you think of a Disney cruise, you think fun, fun, fun. But there are a few things that need to be done before the fun begins. Thanks to Monica for more on what to expect before your high seas adventure begins.
“In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun” and vice versa! When we’re talking about Disney Cruises, what is our one job that must be done before the fun can begin, you might ask? Well, it’s the pre-departure assembly drill that is required to comply with the U.S. Coast Guard and international safety regulations when one boards a Disney Cruise Line ship.
What does this mean? Basically, it’s a mandatory drill that is required for all to participate in prior to setting sail. If this is your first cruise, it can be a little unnerving, but don’t fret. Disney Cruise Lines is committed to your safety.
Everyone on board will be notified when the drill is to begin or you can always check your ship’s Navigator (itinerary) for details. Please follow the instructions heard on the ship’s loudspeakers. When you’re able to access your stateroom, you’ll be able to access your life vests located on the top shelf of your closet. Make sure you try them on and adjust the straps as necessary so they fit properly. After trying on your life vests, return them to the shelf. It is not necessary to take them with you to the drill.
When directed, you will make your way to your designated muster station. If you don’t remember your Muster Station, it will be printed in your “Key To The World”, as well as noted in the back of your stateroom door.
Remember to show up on time, be patient, listen closely and keep your entire party together. Crew members will ask for one of the “Key To The World” cards for your stateroom and will then take a head count to make sure all members of your stateroom are present. They will provide you with important instructions on what would be required of you as passengers in the event of an actual emergency.
The whole drill should only take a short amount of time and you want to be prepared so you know what to do if an emergency arises. Once everyone has reported to the drill, you will be dismissed and the sail away party will commence!
Bon voyage!
